In an age of ever multiplying subgenres, some of which are surely made up, it is hard to stand out amongst all the noise.
Well Glitch Hop has done just that, emerging as one of the freshest and most original styles in recent years.
The ethos of it is producers use native or found sounds in the environment or everyday objects to create crazy hooks, beats and bleeps. Ever tried 'playing' a bucket full of ping pong balls armed only with a mic? Well, you get the idea.
The end product is phat, funky and sonically intriguing. The Hop remains with a few Glitches thrown in, and it has grabbed fans from disparate tribes such as DnB and Dubstep right through to Psy Trance.
In fact, some of us at Sub Rosa dug it before we even knew what it was. Now we do, we want to showcase some of the finest local exponents of the genre for you good people.
So if you're fan of underground music, just curious, broad-minded or already a convert, join us at the launch of Spacelab tomorrow night.
It promises to be out of this world.
