“My earliest memories are of a tiny miner’s cottage in Beechworth north-east Victoria. The winters were freezing and we had only a single wood fire in the house so often we slept in the lounge room. Breakfast would be eaten in front of the fire which consisted of locally sourced honey spread thick with butter on toasted crumpets.

My Italian stepfamily lived only a few kilometres away and we would visit to be fed amazing foods by our Nono and Nona listening to the classical music constantly played or running around the enormous and beautifully manicured garden where we would pull blackberries off the trees and breathe in the scent of lavender and rosemary all day.

Our youthful memories always pull us back to one place or another where we sometimes cannot return. The best that can be done is to take a moment to ourselves and create in part a vestige of what we once held so dear.”
